Beneath the Argument

Serving Newton, Boston, Brookline, and throughout Massachusetts — in person and via telehealth

Most couples already know what they're fighting about. What they need is help understanding why they keep having the same fight - and how to change it.

Let's Connect

The Relationship Is the Client

Every couple develops patterns. One partner reacts, the other responds, and before long both people find themselves in a familiar place.

When we identify that cycle, we can slow it down, understand what's underneath it, and begin responding differently.

How We Work Together

See the Cycle

We identify the familiar sequence that keeps pulling you back into the same conflict.

Slow It Down

Instead of repeating the argument in my office, we slow it down enough to understand what's actually happening.

Hear Each Other

I help each partner communicate their experience in a way the other person can understand, not just react to.

Understand What's Underneath

Sometimes the present conflict touches something older: wounds, fears, expectations, or ways you learned to relate.

Practice Differently

We practice new ways of responding so the relationship can begin to develop a different, healthier pattern.

The Goal Isn't a Perfect Relationship

Disagreements will happen. Misunderstandings will happen. There will be moments when you disappoint or hurt each other. The goal isn't perfection. It's learning to recognize patterns sooner, communicate difficult things in ways your partner can hear, repair after hurt, and disagree without threatening the connection itself.

You don't have to stay stuck in the same patterns.

When you're working against each other, 1 + 1 can start to feel like 1.

When you're supporting each other, 1 + 1 can become 3.

Let's build something better together.
