Family Therapy
A Place to Belong.
A Place to Grow.
Serving Newton, Boston, Brookline, and throughout Massachusetts — in person and via telehealth
Families are where we first learn about connection, belonging, boundaries, and who we are.
As families grow and change, relationships can become strained. Parents and children may stop hearing each other, conflict can take over, and sometimes one person's struggle begins to affect the entire family.
Family therapy creates space to understand what's happening - not to find someone to blame, but to help the family reconnect and move forward together.
Let's ConnectYou Still Belong
I believe one of the most important things a family can provide is a secure sense of belonging. That doesn't mean everyone has to be happy, agreeable, or emotionally comfortable all the time.
There should be room for anger, sadness, frustration, disappointment, different opinions, and different personalities.
A child should be able to experience a wide range of emotions and still know: There is room for me here. I am still part of this family.
Connection should be strong enough to hold disagreement.
How We Work Together
Understand the Family
We start by understanding the family as a whole: its relationships, strengths, challenges, and the perspectives each person brings.
Notice the Patterns
We look at what happens when conflict begins and how responses may unintentionally keep the problem going.
Hear Each Person
Every family member experiences the same family differently. Therapy creates room for those experiences to be expressed and understood.
Strengthen the Structure
We work to create clear boundaries and roles so parents can lead with confidence and children can feel secure enough to grow.
Practice Connection
We practice new ways of communicating, responding, repairing conflict, and staying connected.
Parenting & Growth
Children need parents who are willing to lead. Healthy parental authority and clear boundaries can give children both security and freedom. Like a fence at the top of a high building, boundaries make it safer to move, explore, and grow.
Children also need room to individuate - to discover their own wants, wishes, and worldview while remaining connected to their family and supported by their parents.
Supporting the Child You Have
Every child experiences the world differently. For children with ADHD or other forms of neurodiversity, what looks like defiance, avoidance, or lack of effort may sometimes reflect differences in attention, regulation, communication, or the way they experience their environment.
I work with parents to better understand their child's needs, strengthen connection, and find ways to provide structure and boundaries while making room for the child they actually have - not the child they feel they are supposed to have.
The Goal Isn't a Family Without Conflict.
It's a family where disagreement doesn't threaten belonging, parents can lead, children can grow, and each person has room to become more fully themselves -
while remaining connected.
